The only way to modify the CDB schema at runtime is to make use of the In-service Data Model Upgrade feature as described in Chapter 13 of the ConfD User Guide. There also exists two examples under the $CONFD_DIR/examples.confd/in_service_upgrade directory of the ConfD distribution that demonstrates the in-service upgrade process.
